Home Week 11

This week has not been very eventful. My family has tried to keep the peace and treat each other kindly, but it is growing increasingly difficult to stay out of each other’s hair. We have family dinners every night (I’ve mentioned how I have been trying to learn how to cook and bake some new things), and we talk about our days and how we are feeling. My sister, who lives in an apartment by herself up at State College, came home for a day to collect some things that she needed and to say hello. She has been completely alone for a full two weeks. It was nice to see her and catch up. We have started the nightly tradition of game/movie night, and it helps everyone get along and distract themselves from the fact that we have been inside for so long.

One of the highlights of my week was learning how to make Samoa cookies! The girl scouts in my neighborhood weren’t able to go door to door or sell any of their cookies this year, so I decided to make my own- Samoa’s are my favorite. My dad helped me prepare some of the steps that needed to be done at the same time, and he prevented me from making a lot bigger of a mess than I would have by myself. They turned out relatively well to my surprise, and I shared them with the rest of my family. My next challenge is to remake the tiramisu that we were taught to make at the cooking class in Italy. My family has heard all about how popular and delicious the dessert is, so I hope that I can give them another taste of Rome. I still have the recipe that we were given. Now all I need is the wonderful instructor that we had to come and show me how to do it again…

In other happy happenings, spring is starting to show! I wish that I could be in Rome with this wonderful weather and be spending Easter at the Vatican but looking at the blossoms on the tree outside of my bedroom window will have to do. It makes me extremely sad that this disease is spreading during this time of year. This is one of the only times that I am able to see some of my extended family- maybe I will be able to teach some of my older relatives how to zoom chat! Anyways, spring and Easter are times for rebirth and renewal, so maybe by the end of this month things will be on the upturn. Positive thoughts generate positive results!
