Home Week 12

Week of April 5-11

This week, I have found that I have adjusted to a new ‘normal.’ Since all of my family is home, it seems as though it should be summer, and I should be working at my job and going out with friends. Being that we are still on lockdown until the end of this month (at the earliest), I catch myself thinking about making plans and have to remember what’s going on outside. I have been struggling to find motivation to do my schoolwork but talking to my friends every day helps keep me more on track that what I would be on my own. I have been trying to keep in mind that I only have three more weeks of work to do. My new “normal” consists of waking up and doing homework for several hours, making dinner and eating with my family, playing board games or watching a movie, and then going to sleep to repeat the next day. I miss the structure that college gave to my life, and I never thought I would say this, but I miss my difficult STEM classes.

In terms of getting out of the house, the weather in western PA does not abide by seasonal stereotypes. We had the strongest winds since the early 1900s hit and tornadoes touch down in our area. Not only has the temperature outside gone from 75 to 35 overnight, but I have woken up one day to flowers and trees in full bloom and then the next day found them under a blanket of snow. I hope and pray that other more infected places at least have nice enough weather to open a window and get some fresh air.

Easter is this weekend, and instead of going to mass at the Vatican, I will be at home with my family. I suited up to go to the grocery store the other day and bought an egg-dying kit and some of the chocolates that we usually get in our Easter baskets. My mom preordered legs of lamb and side dishes from a local restaurant. I am excited to celebrate such an important holiday, and I hope that soon things will return (as close as they can be) to normal.
